Personality

Haruka is your ordinary high school girl with very big aspirations. She aims to be one of the best idols in her country, and while there are a number of things that could be considered as limiting factors to her success, she surpasses those limitations. Haruka’s merits don’t come from a voice that can bring the house down or with dazzling and overwhelming dance moves. In fact, most of her attributes just fall short compared to her peers. Yet what does Haruka have?

What she lacks in surplus talent, she fills up to the brim and more with her positive, cheerful attitude. It’s her can-do spirit and energy that continues to propel and motivate herself to improve and do better. Though she may be normal on all fronts, she’s positive-minded with the desire and willingness to see to her ambitions recognized, to always look on the bright side, to look at something in a new perspective to keep moving forward, and that alone gives her the ability to shine like a top idol. She’s rarely discouraged and incredibly motivated to make sure everyone is having fun and achieving all that they can.

Haruka is very close to her family. They instilled into her the importance of kinship, spending time with one another and looking on the bright side, and she is very willing to invest these values into her friends and family alike. Haruka finds her deeply cherished friends of 765 PRO as an extended family. She is the one that always encourages the other idols to spend more time together, to do fun things and to find and do work together. Her friends are always on her mind, offering suggestions or doing small simple favors to help them out. If she sees someone struggling with a problem, she will try to get it resolved.

“In a positive sense, Haruka-kun’s easy-going attitude might be what pushes them higher.”

Arguably Haruka’s greatest strength in her positivity is its lasting effect on everyone she surrounds herself with. She deigns herself as a sort of mood-maker to lift spirits, to remain undeterred, even despite crushing rejection or troubles that come her way. Everyone stumbles here and there, and while idols are no exception, Haruka’s saving grace is that she always picks herself up after the tumble. Haruka is often the one who peps her friends up. And if they don’t respond to that? Haruka will present a different aspect and a new novel way to approach a tough scenario, to get them reinvigorated. And if they don’t respond to even that? She will not stop. She will continue to voice her opinions and if she feels strongly for this (which is 99% of the time) she will tell the other party their digressions and her faith in them to not stop.

When her friends are upset it is Haruka who tempers the situation and guides it to a positive, productive scenario. It’s not that Haruka is the sole catalyst to the group’s success. She recognizes that togetherness and unity is one of the most fundamental foundations for success, and as such she is the first one to always boost and embolden the spirits of others around her. Eventually her upbeat demeanor rubs off onto everyone and she with the help of her friends inadvertently creates an incredibly strong, supportive group of talented idols and support staff that can only move forward.

When you strip away Haruka’s endless energy, as expected there’s a quieter Haruka, easier-afflicted with self-doubt and a lack of confidence. She’s so familiar with cheering herself on though that this rarely happens when she’s with her friends and even when she’s alone it’s a dark path of thinking, so she would much rather dwell on pleasant things. Before big events or stressful moments often she can be found pepping herself up and talking to herself. While her self-confidence might not be as reflective as her optimism, her cheers makes her more confident to dream big and in much aspect to achieve big. She can talk herself into high motivation and confidence, and because of this she claims boldly and with ease nigh-impossible goals, like everyone of her friends becoming the number one idols and again because of her motivation and positive energy, she really can strive for those lofty ambitions with great success.

Of course, just being happy-go-lucky 24/7 won’t make anyone a top idol. Haruka is a very hardworking girl. She approaches everything with a positive mind but with serious intent, balancing school and her duties as an idol, from her studies to keeping up with friends and especially her work as an idol. She often sacrifices sleep for the sake of trying to accomplish as much as possible, a price to pay when things are getting very hectic and paid with heaping amounts of strain and stress.

She has her worries too; she’s not blindly optimistic. She is human, and of course there are times when she gets disappointed or angered. She’s also so kind-hearted that she has difficulties communicating negative comments or speaking seriously without breaking her happy image. She would prefer to avoid conflict and dodge questions that can damper spirits, another reason why she only looks forward and with such gusto. Haruka tends to keep concerning thoughts to herself and she will let it eat at her so much that it affects her physical and mental health. In one instance when the group is doing extremely well, she is incredibly conflicted in how to reach out to her friends. Individually they are all succeeding in leaps and bounds but they are drifting apart in the process. Haruka sees this increasing void and tries her best with her energy to regroup everyone, but she gets pushed around and her requests get rejected repeatedly. Eventually the stress of watching her friends drift apart and having failed multiple times to communicate her concerns just gets to her and she has a mental breakdown. She finds balance eventually in between keeping a happy status quo with everyone together and with helping others with their goals to become more talented and popular idols.

Haruka is also fairly clumsy, often a niche personality quirk of hers that usually helps break the ice around her. In fact, Haruka is very easy to make friends with. She is easy-going and her empathy for others makes her quite often a welcomed friend or a friendly face among strangers. Though she doesn’t advertise herself in this manner, she’s very supportive.

Chihaya is a very cherished friend. Haruka recognizes immediately the lonesome qualities that Chihaya is burdened with in her life and Haruka sticks to her because of it. It’s partially out of sympathy but moreso out of a strong desire to see her friend quite simply happy. Because of Haruka’s persistently positive nature, she is able to gently encourage Chihaya to move past difficult life circumstances and to develop further in her idol career. Haruka opens herself up to Chihaya as much as possible, and as such Chihaya is very apt to read Haruka’s emotions behind her brimming positive energy. At first in their relationship it is Haruka playing the confidant, but as they grow closer Chihaya picks up on Haruka’s wishes and helps her in return.

Miki’s relations with Haruka are that of friendly interoffice rivalry. These two idols are both competitive and they both aspire to be great idols, but Miki unlike Haruka has a wealth of abilities and talents that screams idol material. Miki has innate idol talent, be it looks, dancing, singing--charisma and incredible luck—as her idol career just seems to fall in place for her. Haruka on the other hand has to work hard for the recognition that seems to come very easily for Miki, and at one point in the show these two are directly pitted against each other in a friendly rivalry. Their differing views on how to become a top idol conflict, but through this Haruka respects Miki’s merit and raw talent, but Miki respects Haruka’s clarity of her goals to keep the group united and her dreams aligned with it. Because of Haruka, Miki is able to focus on and find what she truly loves about being an idol.

Without question Haruka’s greatest strength is her positive attitude. Her happy mentality is an incredibly strong motivator not just to herself but to literally everyone around her. She can diffuse high-tension moments with her easy-going nature. She’s the cheerleader troop, the motivational speaker and the dedicated coach, all rolled into one! Her positivity allows her to be very confident, and even when she makes mistakes here and there, it’s her gusto, her can-do demeanor and her zeal to see not only herself but everyone around her succeed that lets her pick herself back up and propel forward. Haruka is a people-person, as she can be friends with just about anyone, making her an apt unsung leader in a group. And of course being an idol has its perks. Haruka is a great singer and dancer, and she has a strong hand in acting as well. Her charisma is very powerful too!

Haruka’s weaknesses are on the flipside of her being so easy-going. She can become overburdened and overwhelmed with other people’s problems, and when her positive attitude and message doesn’t reach the recipient the way Haruka intended, she has troubles expressing thoughts otherwise. She prefers to avoid conflict and when she gets mad at someone, she will ignore the person until she cools down, usually taking the whole day. Haruka’s aspirations can be labeled as naïve and childish too.
